Off To Ogden

We will be leaving first thing in the morning for Ogden, Utah to take my son Josh to Weber State University. This is pretty close to being the hardest thing I have ever done. Second to watching my daughter Misty drive away to live in Washington state.

I know Josh will be fine and he will have a great experience but boy am I going to miss him. It’s going to take all I have to drive away from the campus on Monday without him. He’s going to live on campus, he has his own car, he has a really good job, and he’s a mature level headed kid so there really is nothing to be worried about.

But I’m going to miss him terribly.

I won’t be back until Monday evening so let’s hope everything goes well with KZION. I’ll talk to you when I get back.

James Has His First Game Tonight

After four doses of the Migranal Nasal Spray last weekend, there was no affect on James’ headache whatsoever. So we’re back to the neurologist next week and it’s quite possible that we will admit him to the hospital and put him out for a few days and see if that will break the pain cycle.

While we were up to Primary Children’s Hospital we got a copy of an article that a pediatric neurologist wrote about daily chronic migraines that never go away. The article was so refreshing to read as it was exactly what James was experiencing. According to the article we are trying all the right things. But nothing is working.

So anyway, James has his first football game tonight. I have been attending his practices and I don’t know how he plays so hard with his migraine. I’m so proud of him for continuing with his life in spite of his trials. James practices harder than any of his teammates because he said that he needs to prove to his coaches that he can play even with his headache. He was asked by the varsity coach to suit up for the varsity game last week but he had his appointment at Primary Children’s. He never misses school, he never complains, and he never misses practice. The only way we can find out how he is doing is by asking him. Sometimes I wish he was a punter or field goal kicker or even a defensive back instead of a running back. We’ll be on pins and needles the whole game.

I’m having so much fun with Geo Stats. These are programs that take the IP address and displays the exact location of where the IP is assigned. Provides interesting information on where your visitors are from.

KZION Has Depth As Well As Reach

I received the following eMail this morning. I’ve received many eMail’s like this over the years. I enjoy hearing from listeners from far away places as well as from other faiths as it reminds me not only of the reach of KZION but the depth.

Great music and great station. KZION gets me through my work day. I love the variety of music. Because I listen to KZION, I have purchased several CDs of different artists. Your internet station has exposed me to positive and spiritual music I have never heard. I am sure LDS music reflects an LDS lifestyle that I knew nothing about. I am an Evangelical Christian. The music has encouraged me to read the Book of Mormon. We have a lot in common as followers of Christ. Keep up the good work KZION!

Record Setting Day, Again

I don’t know how we did it but we squeezed in 238 simultaneous listeners today.

Yet Another Record Day On KZION

Yesterday saw 233 simultaneous listeners on KZION and from about 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM it was extremely difficult to get a spot on the radio server. There were about six slots left on the Level 2 Members server so if you are a Level 2 Paid member and have broadband, please use the Hi-fi link to connect. That will free up some spots on the Level 1 servers.

Total performances for the month of August are now over 900,000. I should exceed a million by months end. I can’t fathom that, a million performances. There have been 1,844 requests made for the month compared to 610 during the same period last month. Nice.

Now I have to figure out how to afford to upgrade the radio servers so more people can listen.

Back From Primary Children’s Hospital

We just got home from a trip up to Primary Children’s Hospital. We left at 4:00 AM this morning and arrived at the hospital about 9:15 AM. They got us in right away. James first got an EKG and then some other tests and we wrapped up the visit around noon. The cardiologist said that James has a healthy heart (The kid has a 58 pulse, he’s in great shape) and he does not see anything from a cardiologists point of view that would be causing the headaches. He gave us the Ok to try the Migranol Nasal Spray medication.

We then went up to Ogden to Weber State University so my other son could buy his books. Then to the pharmacy to pick up the Migranol medication and then back home. It’s so nice having kids that drive. I only had to drive for a few hours on the way up. The rest of the time Shelly and I kicked back and watched DVD’s while Josh and James took turns driving.

On the way home we gave James the first of 4 doses of the medication. As of right now, the medication has had no affect. We’ll see what happens over the next few days.

In the meantime I’ve got to get to bed.

Friday’s Trip To SLC

The cardiologist’s office called this afternoon. “Hello?, Hi this is Dr. office and we have moved your appointment for Friday from 1:00 PM to 10:00 AM. Uhm, Ok. But do you realize we’re coming from St. George and it’s a 5 hour drive to the hospital and that’s the reason we made the appointment for 1 PM in the first place? Yes, I realize that but there is nothing we can do about it.”

Gee thanks.

Another Record Setting Day

KZION had another record breaking day yesterday. Total simultaneous listeners reached 231 breaking the previous record of 229 set on August 5th, 2004. The difference between yesterday and August 5th is that yesterday the server peaked at 231 listeners at about 11:30 AM MT and stayed around 225-231 until mid afternoon. Last week the listeners peaked at about 1:30 PM MT and then declined from there.

I’m sure the 231 would of been higher but the free Level 1 listener servers were at capacity from about 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM, preventing additional listeners from connecting unless a connected listener dropped off freeing up a slot. There were still about ten listener slots available on the Paid Level 2 members server.

Some other interesting stats.

July 1, 2004 to July 31, 2004

887 requests made
344,709 total performances
23,287 ATH (Aggregated Tuning Hours)

August 1st, 2004 until today

1,356 requests made (506 made within the past 6 days)
631,657 total performances
42,880 ATH (Aggregated Tuning Hours)

ATH or Aggregate Tuning Hours (ATH) is the total number of hours tuned to a given station or network in the reported time period. To make it into the top 50 list of Internet radio stations, KZION would need an ATH of about 45,000 for a seven day reporting period.

Total Performances is an aggregate of each performance multiplied by the number of listeners tuned into that performance.

It appears the new website is a success.

CSS Method For Hiding eMail Addresses

I have seen and used many different ways to hide an eMail address from website harvesters. My most successful method has been a JavaScript solution I use on kzion.com. I have been using my KZION eMail address for four years now and I receive virtually no SPAM on that account.

I found this method using strictly CSS over at Stu Nicholls website.

Here is the CSS rule:

.backwards {unicode-bidi:bidi-override; direction: rtl; color:#c00;}

And the HTML:

Why not email me at moc.noizk@nhoj

If I were using the .backwards rule in my CSS document the above would display my eMail address properly but would be unreadable to spam-bots.
